Sociologist Deborah Lupton to be awarded honorary doctor

Honorary Doctor

Professor Deborah Lupton will be awarded with an honorary doctorate at the University of Copenhagen. Lupton was nominated by the Department of Sociology.

Deborah Lupton, who in the last couple of years has conducted research in the influence of digitization on social relations, and how big data influences society, will be awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Copenhagen. This will take place at the annual Commemoration Ceremony on November 16, 2018.

Honorary doctorates are the highest academic accolade, that the university confers without the recipient first having defended a doctoral thesis in Denmark. The Department of Sociology is looking forward to cooperate with Lupton:

- Deborah Lupton is one of the world’s leading researchers within the field of sociology of risk. We are excited to have this prominent researcher affiliated with the University of Copenhagen and the Department of Sociology, says Janus Hansen, Head of the Department of Sociology.

Deborah Lupton’s research fields are closely aligned with the agenda of the Department of Sociology and the Faculty of Social Sciences to strengthen education and research in social data science.
