I am Professor in Political Sociology and Head of Department at the Department of Sociology, University of Copenhagen. I am also adjunct professor at the Department of Social Science, Economics and Journalism, the University of Greenland (Ilisimatusarfik).
My research covers: state-nation relations and nationalism; the sociology of education; public administration. My research focuses on state and nation-building both historically and in contemporary societies in Europe and in the Arctic Region. Currently, I am heading a research project that explores independence, territorial autonomy and education in the Danish Realm, especially Greenland. The project is funded by the Carlsberg Foundation.
I teach and supervise in sociology, especially political sociology. I have supervised 5 Ph.D. dissertation to completion, and a large number of MSc and BSc theses. Furthermore, I have served on a large number of assessment committees.
I am a member of the Danish board of external examiners (Sociology).
