I am researching the experiences of queer individuals with the current conditions for family formation and parenthood. My focus is on how queer individuals navigate complex family formation processes within a specific political, legal, and social context. This particularly involves examining the barriers and challenges that queer individuals encounter on their path to parenthood. I am interested in understanding how these factors shape the reproductive situations that queer individuals create, including the decision not to have children.

My PhD project (2023-2026) is a qualitative interview study that explores how transgender individuals, non-binary and genderqueer individuals, as well as gay men, navigate family formation processes in a Danish context. The project aims to uncover challenges and pathways in family formation processes for individuals in the queer community who may face the risk of having their parenthood assigned in cotradiction with their gender identity or not having it recognized at all. The project seeks to understand how such specific circumstances impact the experience of family formation, parenthood, and reproduction.

Are you interested in contributing to the research project on queer people's experinces with family formation and parenthood by participating in an interview?

Doyou identify as trans*, non-binary, genderqueer, and/or a homosexual man, and do you have experiences with family planning or had considereations about becoming a parent? Then I hope you want to share your experiences for a research project about how queer people experience the current conditions for parenthood and starting a family.

Have you experienced that institutions can’t offer the right help and guidance for queer people wanting to have children?

Have you experienced challenges with securing your rights as a parent?

Maybe you have imagined how it will or should be to have children?

Maybe you have thought about becoming a parent and decided that you aren't going to have children or that now isn't the right time to have children?

If you can recognize these challenges or considerations, or if you have other experiences with family formation and becoming a parent, then I hope you want to be part of the project.

My research project investigates how queer people navigate processes of family formation in a political and legal context where one risks being afforded parenthood in contradiction with one’s gender identity or not at all. This is the first research project of its kind in Denmark.

We know that queer people experience challenges with pursuing family formation, and it is important for our community that knowledge is produced as a basis for social change. I am a homosexual cis man without children myself, and the project is born out of an interest in creating attention and knowledge about the conditions that make it difficult for queer people to find their path to parenthood and how these challenges affect one’s life.

To participate you must identify as trans*, non-binary, genderqueer and/or a homosexual man. You also have to be engaged a family formation process or had considerations about becoming a parent within the last five years. You don’t have to have children now.

If you want to be part of the project, then we will find a time and place that suits you for an interview. I will make sure that the interview situation is a safe and prejudice free space with a pleasant atmosphere. We can check in during the interview, and we don’t have to talk about anything that you are uncomfortable with. You are welcome to contact me if you want to know more before deciding if you want to participate or if you have wishes for how we can create a safe space for you. Your experiences and stories will of course be anonymous. The interview will be around two hours.

I hope to hear from you!
