Honorable Mention for James Coleman Award

Prestigious prize
Professor Mads Meier Jæger, Department of Sociology and SFI (The Danish National Centre for Social Research), will receive an Honorable Mention for the prestigious James Coleman Award for the Best Article. A prize awarded by the American Sociological Association for the best article within the research field of Sociology of Education published in the journal American Sociological Review in the previous two years.

The extended family
The Honorable Mention is awarded to Mads Meier Jæger on the basis of his article “The Extended Family and Children’s Educational Success”. The article shows that the importance of family background for educational success pertains not only to the immediate family: Grandparents and aunts and uncles also contribute to children’s educational success.

The prize will be awarded in New York 10 August 2013.
