Department of Sociology moves up on global ranking list

Department of Sociology at University of Copenhagen is now ranked number 39 on the Shanghai Ranking of Sociology 2018. The department has moved up 12 places compared to 2017.

Every year several university ranking lists are published, including a ranking by Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China. For this reason, the assessment is also called the Shanghai Ranking. Among other things, the ranking list has been calculated based on how frequently researchers have been cited by other scholars, and how many articles the researchers have published. Department of Sociology has moved from a 51st-75th place in 2017 (not further specified) to a 39th place in 2018.

- In the spring, Department of Sociology climbed up on the QS Rankings quite well. We can now point out that we are also progressing on the Shanghai Rankings. It is very satisfying that it seems that Department of Sociology has obtained increasing international recognition, Janus Hansen, Head of the Department of Sociology, says.

- In general, these rankings can be somewhat biased in favor of universities in the English-speaking world. For this reason it is especially worth noting that the Department of Sociology ranks number 4 among sociology departments outside the English-speaking world, he adds.
