Current research

My research interests cut across the fields of Reproduction Studies, Family Sociology, Feminist STS, gender studies and medical sociology. Central to my research are questions about how normative imaginaries of gender, bodies and families operate and materialize at both the societal level and in our embodied, lived experiences and identities. My work concerns reproductive citizenship, population politics, biomedicalisation and assisted reproduction. I work with qualitative methods, including interviews, observations and a diverse range of textual and visual materials.

In my postdoctoral position at The Department of Sociology, I am the PI of the research project ReproCitizen – Responsible Reproductive Citizenship in Denmark in the 21st Century. In this project, we explore how national strategies aiming at increasing the ‘fertility awareness’ in Danish youth as a way to meet the fertility/fecundity ‘crisis’ of the Danish Welfare State (falling fertility rates and increasing expenses for assisted reproduction) entangle with the increasing ‘climate awareness’ among Danes, including how the climate crisis politicizes reproductive choices in relation to global population growth. We are investigating the relationship between national policies and campaigns, public debates and (inter)national activism. Moreover, we explore how young Danes, including climate activists, imagine their reproductive future and their reflections about sustainable family life. Especially, we are interested in how they navigate the tension between the conflicting reproductive agendas.  Read more about the ReproCitizen project here (link to project page in English) . I am a member of the research group on Culture and Civil Society. The ReproCitizen project is also affiliated with CoMMons Research Center for Political Mobilisation and Social Movement Studies.

I received my PhD degree in 2016 from the Department of Sociology, University of Copenhagen. My dissertation is called Men of Tomorrow. A sociological study of new family practices and masculine transformation among men who partner career women. Since then I have first worked as a lecturer at the Gender and Sexuality Program at DIS – Study Abroad In Sandinavia, an exchange program for American college students in Copenhagen and Stockholm. From 2017-2020, I was a postdoc at University of Southern Denmark where I was part of the interdisciplinary research project Ice Age. Entangled Lives, Times and Ethics of Fertility Preservation (DFF funding). From 2020-2021, I have been a postdoc at Aalborg University in Copenhagen as part of Technologies of Death and Dying at the Beginning of Life (DFF funding).
